Mercedes-Benz C 220 CDI

Driving pleasure and innovative.

Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) is introducing the C 220 CDI CKD to the Thai market. Its diesel engine is based on latest technology and impresses with a low fuel consumption, exemplary environmental compatibility, but high output and outstanding driving pleasure.

Mercedes-Benz has now expanded the C-Class sedan line-up by adding this particularly fuel-efficient direct injection model, C 220 CDI the most efficient C-Class ever, with no sacrifice in terms of the high level of comfort and outstanding safety features so typical of Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Mercedes-Benz engineers have incorporated further improvements to the engine, turbocharger and common-rail direct injection.

As a result, the C 220 CDI develops a peak output of 125 kW/170 hp (previously 110 kW/150 hp), and generates a torque of 400 newton metres from 2,000 rpm - around 18 percent more than before. Fuel consumption has been reduced by up to 0.3 litres per 100 kilometres, sporty accelaeration from standstill to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds is now combined with a fuel consumption of only 15 km/liter and the corresponding CO2 emission of 173 g/km.

The engine provides eager responsiveness and smoothness of operation. Dr. Alexander Paufler, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) said “With this diesel injection technology, the C 220 CDI sets new standards in its segment with respect to performance, environmental protection and driving pleasure – in short: efficiency at a previously unattained level."
C 220 CDI features a selective damping system that also offers great comfort with AGILITY CONTROL package with situation-responsive shock absorber control and the PRE-SAFE®anticipatory occupant protection system. The safety technology in the interior has been complemented with the very latest protection systems. Eight airbags are included as standard equipment: two adaptive airbags for the driver and front passenger, two sidebags in the front seat backrests, two sidebags for rear passengers and two large windowbags which extend from the A to the C-pillar during a side impact.

The driver, front passenger and the passengers in the outer rear seats also benefit from belt tensioners and belt force limiters as standard. The front head restraints operate on the NECK PRO principle: during a rear-end collision the padded surfaces are pushed forward within milliseconds to support the heads of the driver and front passenger at an early stage. This significantly reduces the risk of a whiplash injury.

The current Mercedes-Benz C-Class is the first car in this market segment to be awarded the internationally accredited environmental certificate (ISO-Norm 14062). The certifying body of the German Technical Inspection Authority confirmed the environmentally-friendly development of the saloon car where important advances were made in the areas of fuel consumption, exhaust gas emissions and material selection which are of importance throughout the entire lifespan of the car. In addition, Mercedes-Benz C-Class has received a number of awards globally in diverse areas such as Top Safety Picks for 2009 by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the United States and awarded Five Stars by Euro NCAP test for safety.

Since its market launch in Thailand at the end of last year, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class is continuing the great success story.

“The sedan got off to an excellent start and the new C-Class W 204 series has also been enjoying high popularity. The response of our customers to the C-Class series exceeded our high expectations. All four gasoline models, i.e. C 200 KOMPRESSOR, C 200 KOMPRESSOR ELEGANCE, E 200 KOMPRESSOR AVANTGARDE and C 230 2.5 AVANTGARDE - in fact, have achieved a market segment share of 55 percent upon the seventh month operating result. With the introduction of C 220 CDI model, we offer even more choice to the range of customers within the C-Class customer base, and it will also enable us to win new customers to the Mercedes-Benz brand,” said Dr. Paufler.
