2 New C-Class Series

with BlueEFICIENCY Technology

Mercedes-Benz introduces 2 new models of C-Class with BlueEFFICIENCY technology: C 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY and C 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY AVANTGARDE.

Mercedes-Benz has now expanded the C-Class sedan line-up in BlueEFFICIENCY technology. The outstanding fuel efficiency is instilled into four C-Class models courtesy of meticulous attention to detail on the part of the designers. Specific measures were impleted in the areas of vehicle weight, aerodynamics and driving system.

New series of Mercedes-Benz C-Class arrive with newly developed engines with direct injection which make C-Class even more efficient. The engines are available in both petrol (CGI) and diesel (CDI) that impress with a low fuel consumption, and therefore exemplary environmental compatibility, while delivering a high output and therefore outstanding driving pleasure. Moreover, both combustion types are modified and tailor-made to match the fuel standard and technical requirements in Thailand in order to avoid problems which may arise in the future.

Petrol engines: the two 4-cylinder in-line petrol engines of the new engine model series, installed in C 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY is especially thrifty on fuel. In addition to the top performance in terms of torque and output, this new engine has also developed noise reduction.
This is achieved by means of measures in Homogeneous direct injection and an increase in the compression ratio for a higher rate of efficiency, turbocharging for an increase in output combined with a small displacement, fast, smooth adjustment of valve timing for high torque, even at low engine speeds.

C 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY arrives in three models: C 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY, C 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY ELEGANCE and C 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY AVANTGARDE delivering rated output of 135 kW/184 hp at 5,250 rpm, rated torque of 270 Nm at 1,800-4,600, acceleration 0-100 km in 8.2 seconds, top speed of 232 km/hour, fuel consumption of 13 km/litre, the type of petrol use is E20.

Diesel engine: C 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY AVANTGARDE comes with Mercedes new diesel engine, leading the way in terms of power output, consumption and emissions. It redefines standards for power output and torque on the one hand and for fuel consumption and exhaust emissions on the other, setting benchmark figures which no other comparable series-production engine is able to match at the current time.

The principal features of the new Mercedes diesel engine comprise of improved turbocharging concept for consistently high power output yet economical fuel consumption, fourth-generation common-rail technology with piezoelectric injection, optmised for smoothness and lower noise levels, lower compression ratio – meaning reduced emission, fast ceramic glow plugs for enhanced cold-running characteristics, two turbochargers with a fixed nozzle turbine.

The C 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY is propelled by the most powerful variant of the new in-line 4-cylinder engine with two turbochargers, total displacement of 2,143 cc delivering consistently high power output at 150 kW/204 hp at 4,200 rpm, torque of 500 Nm at 1,600-1,800 rpm, acceleration 0-100 km in 7 second, top speed at 240 km/hour, average fuel consumption at 17 km/litre.
Dr. Alexander Paufler, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) said “C-Class has always been one of the most popular among all Mercedes-Benz models. The sedan got off to an excellent start and the response of our customers to the C-Class series exceeded our high expectations. With the introduction of the new C-Class series, we offer even more choice to the range of customers within the C-Class customer base, and this will also enable us to win new customers to the Mercedes-Benz brand”

“The new series of C-Class feature Mercedes-Benz strategy towards zero emission. Each new series that is launched delivers vastly improved fuel economy and markedly lower exhaust emissions. With BlueEFFICIENCY and newly developed both petrol and diesel engines, C-Class is exceptionally more powerful however, more economical and environmentally friendly.” Dr. Paufler added.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class features a selective damping system that also offers great comfort with AGILITY CONTROL package with situation-responsive shock absorber control and the PRE-SAFE®anticipatory occupant protection system. The safety technology in the interior has been complemented with the very latest protection systems. Ten airbags are included as standard equipment: two adaptive airbags for the driver and front passenger, two sidebags in the front seat backrests, two sidebags for rear passengers and four large windowbags which extend from the A to the C-pillar during a side impact.

The current Mercedes-Benz C-Class is the first car in this market segment to be awarded the internationally accredited environmental certificate (ISO-Norm 14062). The certifying body of the German Technical Inspection Authority confirmed the environmentally-friendly development of the saloon car where important advances were made in the areas of fuel consumption, exhaust gas emissions and material selection which are of importance throughout the entire lifespan of the car. In addition, Mercedes-Benz C-Class has received a number of awards globally in diverse areas such as Top Safety Picks for 2009 by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the United States and awarded Five Stars by Euro NCAP test for safety.

With the introduction of the new series, C-Class is now available in 5 models as follows:

- C 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY - 2,499,000 BHT
- C 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY ELEGANCE - 2,649,000 BHT
- C 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY AVANTGARDE - 2,849,000 BHT

BlueEFFICIENCY Technlogy: In striving to achieve zero-emission mobility, Mercedes-Benz offers a wide variety of technologies: optimized combustion engines, hybrid vehicles, electric drives with fuel cells or even purely electric-driven vehicles. The BlueEFFICIENCY technologies are also a package of measures which can further reduce energy consumption and therefore CO2 emissions for all passenger car and van models. Whether it’s the automatic start/stop function, electrically assisted power steering, low-rolling-resistance tires, aerodynamic refinements, intelligent lightweight engineering, gear-shifting and fuel consumption display or engines with lower displacement and turbochargers: on balance, vehicles benefiting from a holistic optimization approach use so little fuel that drivers feel the benefit in their wallets. In a nutshell: at Mercedes-Benz, BlueEFFICIENCY stands for the concept of efficient mobility.
