BlueEFFICIENCY from Mercedes-Benz stands for pioneering efficiency technologies as well as innovative packages of measures based on optimising fuel consumption and emission levels.

Efficiency technologies in the new-generation CL

Highlights of the new BlueDIRECT V8 engine generation include downsizing, direct petrol injection, two compact superchargers for fast response and an intercooler for optimum thermodynamic efficiency. In the CL 500 BlueEFFICIENCY it ensures outstanding figures for torque, output and noise reduction.

Innovative BlueDIRECT engine technology makes it possible to reduce emissions and fuel consumption by 22% compared with previous models.
BlueEFFICIENCY measures in the CL:

  • ECO start/stop function for V8 engines (switches the engine off when in neutral to save fuel)
  • Optimised 7G-TRONIC PLUS for V8 engines
  • Alternator management with energy recuperation when braking and coasting (V8 engines)
  • Energy-saving control of auxiliary units for V8 engines (power steering pump as well as oil and water pumps)
  • specially designed tyres for lower rolling resistance
  • Sealed joints around the headlamps for improved aerodynamics
  • Aerodynamically shaped exterior mirror housings
